Welcome to the Coolum Wedge Body Surfing Festival 2024 Now in its fourth year, the Coolum Wedge is looking forward to seeing all you whompers back for more fun, barrels and fingers crossed, amazing waves. Coolum Beach on the Sunshine coast can deliver world class waves in tropical waters.
Thank you for visiting the Coolum Wedge We really look forward to seeing old and new faces at the festival of body surfing. This competition is all about having fun and growing the amazing sport of bodysurfing. It is very rare to have a competition where your are in a heat and the person that you are competing against is cheering you on. This festival is encouraging all people of all ages to enter and of all levels of skill. Even if you are just learning it is worth entering as you will get encouragement, taught new skills and basically be pushed to become a better water person. One of Queensland's hidden gems, Coolum Beach is at the end of a long stretch of amazing beach breaks running up to Noosa National Park. Coolum Beach is fortunate in that its sheltered in the corner of a headland, so it can handle any of the funky winds that is thrown at it. The Coolum Wedge, Body Surfing Festival will be held from the 26th of March until the 28th 2024.
Last year, History was made when the International Body Surfing Association (IBSA) asked The Coolum Wedge to run the World’s first qualifying tournament, for the official Bodysurfing World Tour Championship. The event went off flawlessly and The Wedge again hosts the first IBSA WQS event for 2024-25
THE WAVES Coolum itself is a natural magnet for body surfing waves. The continental shelf slopes off deeply out from Coolum, allowing swells to rear up quickly and break with more energy than other locales. Coolum is also blessed with permanent coffee-rock formations that protrude into the ocean like spines under the sand so the banks are typically anchored to these formations which makes the rides long
The Coolum headland (Point Perry) Point Perry book-ends one corner of a long crescent-shaped beach, so no matter what the swell direction there is always a bank that’s on. Point Perry gets really good when the surf is big, it can handle 6-10ft and you can get some wild rides out there. The headland itself refracts swell lines back towards the main break, combining with the main swell, rapidly building in height and producing the legendary ‘Coolum Wedges’.
The IBSA qualifying event will be held as a separate competition on Wedge Friday, so whompers can compete in both the IBSA and also in a division in The Wedge
With the grass roots vibe that we all love at the Wedge still a core value, the Wedge is even more (Where the locals and international) Tribes Come Together
What are the highlights for 24?
The Festival is a 3 day Event with competition running over 2 days. Every competitor in the division with more than 20 participants will surf a minimum of two heats – more time in the water!

Rafael Caldeira Brazil and Eastern suburbs whomper
Coolum wedge changed my perception of competition, which usually meant tension for me. The Wedge bodysurfing event is definitely all about fun, from the beginning to the end, due to their unique inclusive atmosphere, where everyone involved holds such a passion for the ocean.
Lyla Crouch The local legend
I think it's amazing. It's a really fun sport and all girls should get involved in it. It's good to see that men and women are both competing in it.
Diana Harvey 79'ers
I loved being part of the Coolum wedge energy, encouragement and fun. People of all ages from 12 to 80 and capabilities came together, to share their love of bodysurfing. The competition made me stretch myself and it's made me a better body surfer.
Here are a few clips of the Coolum wedge from the last few years. keep checking back for more clips.
