IS THERE AN AFTER PARTY? Hell yes!!! It’s actually the Mid–Festival After Party on Saturday Night (25th March). The Coolum Beach Hotel Beer Garden (a favourite haunt of the wedge competitors and a major sponsor again of the festival) again is the venue and is booked out for the event. For just $30 you get a wide variety of foods and the opportunity to relive the legendary moments of your heats. We will also present the Wedge champion club on the after party night. Naturally everyone is welcome - competitors, their families and friends, sponsors etc. Buy tickets on the ‘register now’ page We will also present the Wedge Champion Club on the after-party night. New to the 2023 After Party will be a Body Surfing Trivia contest so form your teams and hone your knowledge!
REFUND POLICY Registrations close on the 18th March (one week prior to the event). If your plans change and you can no longer make the event you can withdraw and get a full refund before COB 11th March (5pm QLD time). After that date, you will need to contact us about your individual circumstances as we will have already commenced scheduling.
WHEN DOES THE COOLUM WEDGE FESTIVAL START AND END? The Wedge Festival kicks off Friday morning for those competitors who have registered for the IBSA Qualifying event – spectators come along and watch the majesty! We then invite everyone to the informal group whomp session (approx 4 pm) that was such a big hit last year. Again to be held at First Bay near Coolum – a very picturesque location about 500m south of the Coolum SLSC over the headland. Straight after the swim we will walk just up to the headland to the Point Perry Lookout for the Mid-Summer Eve’s BBQ.
Finals Day Is Sunday. Note that with the increased numbers this year we expect to run for most of the day. Post-presentations there will be tables booked at the Coolum SLSC for those that need to fill in time before their flights and the tales of grandeur
HOW MANY HEATS Will I HAVE? Every competitor in a Wedge division with more than 20 participants will surf a minimum of two heats. We want to provide as much water time as we can for everyone. Of course if you also register for the IBSA Open events on the Friday, you will have even more heats
CHAMPION BODYSURF CLUB This year the Champion Club will be decided in a one-off teams’ heat to be held Saturday afternoon. Each club team must have one competitor from each division (Juniors, Women, Open, Masters and Tribal Elders). The heat will be 30 minutes duration in total. Each member must catch at least one wave with a maximum of three waves per member. Each member’s highest scoring wave will be added to the team total. The relay will be a tag team format, with the tag between team members made on the beach. Winning team will be highest aggregate score.
DIRECTIONS Festival Site will be overlooking the beach at Tickle Park, located just behind the skate board park and about 150m north of Coolum SLSC. It’s also right next to the caravan park where many competitors stay and hang out.
Sunshine Coast airport is 14 km away from Coolum Beach so an Uber ride is quick and easy. Once in Coolum, everything is within walking distance of the festival so you won’t need a car.
IS THE COOLUM WEDGE A COVID SAFE EVENT? Absolutely. We will be following the guidelines as set out by the Queensland Department of Health to run an event that makes your safety a priority.
LOCATION AND PARKING To find the contest site just enter ‘Tickle Park Coolum Beach’ into maps. There is a large free public carpark adjacent to the competition site. If you are staying in Coolum, the main beach is within walking distance of practically all accommodation options.
